cd: insert parallel universe   catalogue: dream 33

In their ghostly-carousel whirl of beats, samples and melodies the Amsterdam duo focus on "Insert Parallel Universe" more on the groove of dubstep, the depth of dub-reggae and the percussive directness of breakcore and combine those elements with inventive pop-melodies and the energy of noisy rock & roll, creating in a mix of digital and analogue techniques an exiting, very lively and confronting amalgam of rhythms, sounds and melodies.

Behind an at times sonic blast lurks a layered mesmerising, intoxicating psychedelic alienation, that together with an agitated, strongly personal mood creates an intense, both slumbering and lightly-inflammable cocktail of unusual usage of electronics and violent guitarsounds within the 3-4 minute popsong.

remix 12"1-speed bike/melt banana/jason forrest a.k.a. donna summer/felix kubin – one bomb fits all-zea remixed  catalogue: dream 26

On “One Bomb Fits All-Zea remixed” four respected artists from different countries remix four different songs from Dutch electro-pop duo Zea’s album “Today I Forgot To Complain” and their split 7” (with Fonda 500) “We Buried Indie Rock Years Ago”.

1-Speed Bike, from Canada (amongst other projects, drummer of God Speed You Black Emperor with releases on Constellation and Broklyn Beats) gives the original “We Buried Indie Rock Years Ago” his mentalist rudebuoy bass-heavy treatment.

Japanese noise monsters Melt Banana show themselves in their remix of “Flying Objects Will Reach You Soon” from a more delicate side: a soundwise psychedelic trip with great dynamics.

American Jason Forrest aka Donna Summer puts “Kiss Kiss Revolution” through his breakcore blender, not forgetting to add a Latin feel to it!

Felix Kubin from Germany (Gagarin Records, A-Musik) gives “Mountain Every Minute” his Sci-Fi treatment making the song an instant hit on radio Mars.

split 7": zea-we buried indie rock years ago/fonda 500-digital space pop catalogue: dream 24
Amsterdam duo Zeas new song (not on their in May 2003 released Today I Forgot To Complain album) pays tribute to some of their indie rock heroes and to the lost spirit of true indie. With a nineties revival surely coming up in a few years time Zea goes back to the future.

The Fonda 500 song is their vocoder-led live favourite Digital Space Pop. Futuristic loveliness from the Fonda 500 universe.

Release Date: 20/10/03

cd:today i forgot to complain  catalogue: dream 25
Second album by Zea.
Ultimately rich in expressing different moods in an electro-acoustic environment the album takes you on a samples-and-guitar-carousel trip of beats and melodies proving popmusic (still) has unlimited possibilities.

7": an experience of trouble  catalogue: dream 22

Second vinyl single preceding Zea’s second album. Was the first a split single with Dutch band Persil, this one has three Zea tracks. The title track is a 2 minutes 20 seconds both staccato and guitar-wall driven stormer based on drumband-like percussion and larded with subtle electronic sounds.
The two non-album tracks on the b-side are more in a acoustic home-fi vein with a touch of a psychedelic feel to it.
The single is pressed on blue vinyl.

split 7"  catalogue: dream 21

Zea’s first release in a series of 7”-es preceding their second full-length to be released in Spring 2003. Brought back from a five members band format to a two-some ‘Counting backwards leads to explosions’ shows the core of their music: Energy, surprise and excitement. Loosely akin to todays terms like 'indietronics' and 'lappop' it's a whirly carrousel of samples, beats and melody.

After their well received debut single ‘Agony Aunt’ (1999 Shifty Disco), a split 7” with Grandaddy and Beachwood Sparks with Devil in the Woods (US) and the cd-ep ‘Snapcracklepop’ (2002 Shifty Disco/Star Harbour), ‘Mum’ is Persil’s fourth release. Catchy, upbeat synth/electro-pop with clear, sensual girl vocals.

Persil toured the UK twice and recorded two John Peel sessions.
